Why We Built Gilliland Homestead
Gilliland Homestead exists because we want to build a life that is more rooted, more faithful, and more durable.
That does not mean romantic. It does not mean easy. It does not mean escaping responsibility. It means accepting responsibility more directly, for the condition of a household, for the way children are formed, for the use of money and tools, for the way land is treated, and for the kind of inheritance a family leaves behind.
This site is where those efforts come together. Some of what we write here will be practical: gardens, animals, orchard work, systems, and tools. Some will be theological: confessional Lutheran faith, vocation, repentance, gratitude, and the shape of Christian life in the home. Some of it will be about Bitcoin and technology, because money and tools are not side issues. They shape what families can build and keep.
Mostly, this is meant to be an honest record. A household memory. A place to say what we are learning while we are still in the middle of learning it.
